First-time feature director Gary Shore, who has also logged a lot of hours as a commercials director, certainly knows how to frame an attractive shot. But the movie never finds its own style or feels like more than a mashup of outtakes from "Thrones" and the entire Peter Jackson catalog. - Scott Foundas. Sleek super-hero vampires movies with high-end graphic visuals, sell well among boys and girls. This film brings a good theme and an emotional story about the infamous Vlad the Impaler aka Count Dracula, but the beginning monologue is very dull. Do you answer the call to fight to defend when facing impossible odds or do nothing, bow down and see it perish. Thats the tempting choice that fogs our judgements. Vampires are monsters of darkness and Dracula is the First of them and a great fallen king and warrior. He is the First coz he was the one who spread the darkness and created more monsters. What was the story of this man who was so desperate to protect all that he loved so dearly that he became responsible for this great sin? A great nation can make a deal and walk into the dark side to defeat other monsters but maybe its too great a price to pay even to defend all that you love and the future of your people. The threatening evils of the world has changed the good to become greater monsters themselves who can only consume everything. In the end, was it worth it losing your conscience? Whether you bite this film or not, the story is a classic. If there is a Part 2, I would love to see him fight with his nemesis Van Helsing.

“To die, you have to be alive first.” Its another post-apocalyptic dystopian sci-fi film, 30 years into the future, 98% of humans are all dead and a few million are all thats left. The film slow narrative is frustrating to say the least. Its got the effects, look and props, spot on. It all looks convincing and compelling. The actors are decent too. The robots expressionless faces are extremely unnerving. The theme is man's reliance on labour: caste society, illegal immigration, class warfare and advanced machines. Basically, Robots are not allowed to harm life forms and cannot modifications to their intelligence (as they would surpass our intellect in 7 days). But its supremely frustrating, first, to figure out who the real clocksmith master is who is manipulating the robots and secondly, to figure out will the robots help or destroy us in the end. Adding to this is human petty interests, greed and propaganda, making the robots weirdly more empathetic than humans. Humanity is on its last leg, teetering at the edge of anarchy. This movie is no fun. Its not sexy. The action is boring and its got too many big ideas. |
