In the Sahyadri range, Satara district, Mahabaleshwar is highest hill station in the Western Ghats. It served as the summer capital of Bombay province during the British Raj. Its was known as the "a mild paradise of beauty". The point located to the east of Mahabaleshwar, is named after Sir James Malcolm’s daughter Kate and is famous for its view of two reservoirs Balakwadi and Dhom.
View Point "C": The cliffs which overhang form this point resemble an elephant’s head trunk. The point got its name from the gap between the rock formation, which resembles the hole in a needle. At an elevation of 1280-1370 metres, this point is known for the water reservoirs built during the ancient period. From this point one can see a magnificent view of Krishna valley and deep waters of the dhom dam.
